how will you describe the journey so far? since two years that Governor Ambode mounted the saddle as the governor of Lagos State.

In this interview, Prince Rotimi  Agunsoye is the lawmaker representing Kosofe  Federal
Constituency in the House of Representatives, commends the performance of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode saying the governor has done enough to merit a second term.

Excerpts: It is over two years that Governor Ambode mounted the saddle as the governor of Lagos State. As a federal lawmaker representing the state, how will you describe the journey so far? So far, so good, I must say.

We thank God that we have been able to have people of courage, integrity and wisdom to paddle the canoe of governance in Lagos right from the time of Asiwaju Bola  Tinubu. However, there is one thing about the present governor,  Akinwunmi Ambode that stands him apart. Agunsoye He is a man who doesn’t believe in talking too much, yet works very hard. He can be described as a quiet achiever who believes his works will speak for him. He is a man of courage, integrity and purpose.

I must tell you that Ambode knows what governance is all about. He is a man of the people; a governor for the rich, poor, upper class, middle class and lower class. Can you say he has successfully managed the finances of Lagos since assumption of office especially given the fact that we just exited recession? Of course, he has.

Which other state can you compare to Lagos in terms of judicious use and maximising scarce resources? It is one thing to have the resources; it is a different matter entirely to know how to manage it effectively for the benefit of all. I think Governor Ambode deserves an excellent grade in this regard. In Lagos we have a governor that can be referred to as a financial engineer.

Agunsoye

He knows how to appropriate resources evenly. Do you think he has done enough in terms of infrastructural development? In terms of infrastructural development, I can tell you that there is no local government in Lagos that Governor Ambode has not touched.

Rather than waste time thinking about what to do when he was sworn in, he settled down to business immediately and the results are evident everywhere you go in Lagos. Go to Abule-Egba, Epe, Badagry, Kosofe and other places in Lagos and see things for yourself.

To me,  Ambode’s second term is guaranteed and if there is anything like third term in the constitution of Nigeria, this gentleman will surely get it because Lagosians will massively support him. Are you not afraid that the opposition parties in Lagos might present a consensus candidate who may defeat him in 2019? I do not have any doubt in my mind that even all other political parties in Lagos will give their votes to Ambode in 2019.

This will be the first time in the history of Nigeria, particularly Lagos that opposition parties are speaking well about the performance of this governor. If you remember few days to the conduct of the 2015 governorship election in Lagos, 10 political parties came together and endorsed Ambode as consensus candidate.
